First Place: "Guardians of the Hudson," by Brian Connor of East Fishkill
It's official: The Hudson Valley has no shortage of strong photography – or of beautiful scenery to capture. The first month of the Poughkeepsie Journal Quadricentennial Photography Competition has been judged and two winners have emerged.
The first place award for October goes to Brian Connor of East Fishkill for his moody image, titled "Guardians of the Hudson." The photo shows a seagull resting atop a dock at Battery Park City in lower Manhattan with the Statue of Liberty in the distance. The black and white image rose above stiff competition from more colorful photos, including quite a few featuring the Mid-Hudson Bridge.
Elisa Shaw's photo, "As the fog lifts at Bard Rock," receives an honorable mention. The Red Hook resident's early morning scene captures a peaceful and tranquil moment as geese travel south along the eastern bank of the Hudson at the Vanderbilt Estate in Hyde Park.
